We, the Greek people, are Mediterranean and this means that we are used in bright days and we have a light mood (usually). Greece, though, is not only sunshine but it also has cold winter days and in these days many people especially if they are lonely feel frustration. On such a day or more accurately night somewhere in 2014 Christos Dounis (guitars) and the head of the band wanted to channel this frustration in a creative way and this is how the foundation of MOANING SILENCE has been set. On the same year Christos met his muse who is the vocalist Aimilia Papatheochari and they started creating and recording the songs that you can find in the debut album of the band which I am about to present to you…

THE COVER: It is a lovely cover that looks more like a painting. It has this dark gothic feeling and melancholy that fits perfectly to the band’s sound. Actually I can say that it is a pretty accurate depiction of their sound. You can see a woman walking on an old road in a dark and rainy night and she moves straight to a forest. Behind her you can see two crows that watch her. It is really an image that can make you wonder…

MUSICAL STYLE: The band describes its sound as atmospheric metal and I think that in a way they describe the feeling that this album transmits to the listener. It is an album where melancholy and despair rule. All these feelings are transformed into music by the band with the use of mid – tempo and doom metal elements. They also combine heavy riffs with melodies and the use of the dialogue between the male and the female vocals gives to the whole release a theatrical touch. Also I liked the use of keyboards which for some reason reminded me of the latest SAVATAGE works. I usually get bored with such releases, but it seems that MOANING SILENCE have their way to make this sound interesting and give to it their own personal touch.

CONCLUSION: For me it is obvious that the Greek metal scene has made huge steps of evolution and gives birth to good bands in every kind of metal you can think of. I believe that MOANING STYLE are talented and know the atmospheric metal sound well and because of that they give us an album that has quality and I am sure that it will attract people who feel attracted to the atmospheric metal genre.
